The Dolly Steamboat Utilizes Unique Networking to Engage Crowds When it comes to business networking in the community, perhaps no one does it quite like Dolly Kennedy of The Dolly Steamboat. The sternwheeler sets sail year-round on Canyon Lake giving guests a unique view and a bit of history and insight into the area’s natural beauty. One-on-one interaction and networking is a key of the boat’s success, and Kennedy is a large part of the business success story.
Right now, the majestic boat is in its busy season at Canyon Lake. PR Director and namesake for The Dolly Steamboat, Dolly Kennedy says, “I went up there last week with a busload of people from Illinois from Sun City West. Would you believe, we got up there and there was another bus from Sun City West with people from Illinois! One bus was from a travel agent and I guess the other was a recreation group. The boat was sold out with people all from Illinois.” Kennedy has seen guests from Minnesota, Missouri, Connecticut and several other states, plus Canada. “Referrals are our big thing,” she adds. Often, families come back year after year bringing the next generation to enjoy the scenery, soaring majestic canyons and wildlife sightings that The Dolly Steamboat provides to its guests. Kennedy is very involved in various networking groups and loves being out in the community in her turn-of-the-century attire introducing people to the special world of The Dolly Steamboat. “Networking is so important,” Kennedy explains. “I belong to several different groups. One of them is WISK (Women I Should Know). That meeting is so full of energy; you can’t believe it! WISK has been around 15 years and was founded by a prominent attorney who has since retired.” The group helps to support St. Vincent de Paul, Domestic Violence Shelters and several other charities and is open to new members. Holistic Referral, Strategic Networking, Networking360 and the 101 Referral Network are groups in which Kennedy participates. In each case, people are drawn to Kennedy and love to hear the stories about the early days of The Dolly Steamboat and how the company has grown to where it is today. Take a Cruise A cruise aboard The Dolly Steamboat is a trip unlike any other. The majestic sternwheeler takes guests around Canyon Lake and into the soaring canyons to show off the beauty, vistas and unique wildlife surrounding one of our most beautiful lakes! Now is a great time to take advantage of the desert beauty while colorful wild flowers bloom profusely and “frame” Hwy. 88, the paved road that leads to the lake. January marked the start of The Dolly Steamboat’s busy season and there is much activity! Call now to take advantage of springtime in the desert.
The 2 and 1/2 hour Twilight Dinner Cruise includes a fantastic buffet dinner, complete with chef’s choice of dessert. An airline style bar is available to purchase cocktails, wine and beer. Catering is provided by Brown Brothers Catering of Arizona and the menu always includes two entrees - beef and chicken. The outstanding food continually receives rave reviews! Watch the sun sink behind the cliffs and capture the desert beauty as the moon rises and the stars reveal themselves. Once a month, there is a very special 2 ½ hour Astronomy Cruise (including dinner) with “Dr. Sky” on board. Steve Kates, aka “Dr. Sky,” gives a narration about the galaxy of stars and will interpret the constellations in a fun and engaging way. He uses a blue laser beam to point out various stars and constellations. Private charters are available during the week also on the weekends, and catering may be arranged.
